Casino Poker

Poker at casinos recently experienced a new revival. Casinos used to almost always have poker rooms. In the late 1990’s, however, some began to close their poker rooms down due to a lag in interest. With the recent resurgence in interest, though, many casinos have begun to reopen their poker rooms, and they are packed.

Some attribute this new interest, much of which is coming from younger people, to televised poker games. People see tournaments on TV and watch winners who came out of nowhere, and they want to try their own luck.

Of course, the most popular place to play poker in a casino is Las Vegas. Not only is plenty of poker played in casinos there, but there are also tons of tournaments held there throughout the year. There are a host of web sites that offer reviews on casinos and hotels in Las Vegas as well as analyses of the level of poker to be found.

One of the more popular forms of poker to be found at casinos is called Caribbean Stud. This game is based on five-card stud poker, but the players each play against the dealer instead of against each other. This is popular because it allows players not to have to play against one another, not to have to stay in a long game and not to have to wait till a group is available to play with. The game is easy to pick up and even though it’s not played with a group, the pot can still get rather high.

Other than Caribbean Stud, the most popular games at casinos are Texas Hold ‘Em and Seven Card Stud. The Excalibur is one of the better casinos for beginners: it offers free poker lessons and because of its profile it attracts a lot of beginners, so the risk of losing big isn’t that high. Because this casino has a reputation for attracting beginners and because most tables have low limits, hustlers and pros usually skip this casino.

A feature unique to casino poker is that players don’t have to place an initial bet. Instead, players get their first cards and either place a bet or fold.
